Respond to Two Statements

“Ambition is a positive, desirable trait in a person.”
I neither agree nor disagree with this quote. Ambition, in my opinion, can have either a positive or negative effect on a person. For example, if a student is ambitious to get good grades, he/she will probably study and work hard to achieve that goal. This shows ambition working positively in a person. On the other hand, we see Macbeth and Lady Macbeth are ambitious for power, so they kill the person who is in their way of obtaining that power. This obviously is extreme, but it conveys the fact that ambition can have negative effects on people.

“Everyone is capable of lying, betrayal, and violence, which are basic parts of human nature.”

I agree with quote. I feel as though all humans are capable of making mistakes such as lying, betrayal, and violence. People, though, also have a conscience and should know what is right and what is wrong. With the help of their consciences and knowing the difference between right and wrong, people have the ability to make the right choices.

  1. I agree with your response to the statement about ambition. I did my response on the same statement and I agree that it could have a negative or positive affect on people. I did not respond to the second quote you chose, but I definitely agree with your thoughts about this one.

  2. I definitely agree with both of your statements. I like how you looked at both the positives and negatives of each statement. You looked at different perspectives of each statement.

  3. I agree with you Jill. Ambition can be both a desirable trait and a bad one. I also do believe that everyone is capable of lying, betrayal and violence. I like your response.
