Mos Def uses several techniques to express different things in his song, “Love.” I first noticed his use of internal rhymes, end stopped lines, and enjambments. He uses these techniques to create the “beat” of the song. Next, I noticed that he uses personification to give love human characteristics. Also, he uses apostrophes to address love. An oxymoron stood out to me as a significant part of the song. Lastly, many anaphoras are present in this song.
The effect of the three techniques mentioned is the rhythm or beat in the song. Most songs have a rhythmic unit. He creates this particular rhythmic unit with those techniques. Interestingly, he personifies love and addresses love as if it is a person (apostrophe). I think that he does this to show what an emotional impact being in love can have on one’s life. The final technique with an effect I found was the use of an oxymoron to describe that love is so powerful yet contradicting; he doesn’t know if he should stay home or go out.

Revolt Against the Heat

In the bright, sizzling, summer day
The crackling ground is dry from the lack of precipitation
Crunchy flowers moan and dry out
A worm cracks on the burning sidewalk
The summer sun shines intensely in Louisiana

The wispy clouds slowly swoop
Dark, mellow, and fluffy
Casting a shadow as they slither in front of the sun
The earth feels a little cooler
And the ground sighs with of relief

Dark, scowling raindrops gather in the cloud
Forming a giant cool mass
The cloud splits in half!
Heavy raindrops race toward the ground
Even nature is revolting against the heat

The techniques I used when creating this poem are cacophony, euphony, personification, and sibilance. In the first paragraph, cacophony is used to describe the heat on a summer day. The second paragraph is euphonic to symbolize the peace the earth feels because of the anticipated relief of the extreme temperate. Lastly, I used personification and sibilance in my poem to make it sound hopefully more interesting.

Research Paper Post

I feel confident over a few features of my draft. I am confident in my explanation of the government’s view of gun ownership in the 1800s. I am also confident in my conclusion. Some other positives of my essay are that I felt that it was easy to find information on gun control, and it was not difficult to make notecards. Notecards helped me a lot! Lastly, the putting time into a detailed outline really made writing the draft not as difficult as it would have been without the detailed outline.
I am struggling in that I feel as though my paper is biased against the government’s perspective of gun ownership. This weekend I am going focus on fixing that. I am struggling in depicting what I have interpreted in an unbiased manner. It seems as though, through research I have found, that the government is biased against the Second Amendment, and how can one report that in an unbiased manner? Please focus your feedback on the bias of my paper.

Snow Days Post:
The past couple of days of school were cancelled because of the weather! The roads were icy and during most of the days in which we were not in school driving was dangerous. The school my sister attends, St. Jude, was also closed. Even my dad had to stay home because his work was also canceled on Tuesday and Wednesday. It was nice to spend time with my family; everyone was home!
I did some enjoyable activities over the snow days. One thing I did was make churros for Spanish homework! It was a hard process, but they tasted great. Also, my dad, sister, and I worked on a challenging puzzle. My sister and I also made red velvet cake balls, which tasted really good! Even though I had much spare time, a lot of it was dedicated to homework and school. Overall, I really enjoyed the snow days. J
