Reading Response to Short Stories and Class Notes

For the past unit on short stories, I have really enjoyed the way we have focused on one main aspect of literature for everyday for each different story. It really has helped me fully understand the aspect of reading we focused in on. For example, when we read and discussed the story about the old man, Dr. d discussed setting. That really helped me to understand both the setting of the story in which we were reading AND what setting focuses in on. Also relating to setting, I found it interesting the depth of the setting of a story. I had always been taught that setting was time and place, but in this unit I have learned otherwise!
An Old Man with Wings was an interesting story that surprised me multiple times. For example, the title was quite misleading. I had no idea it was going to be about an angel held captive! Also, it surprised me greatly when the family decided to sell visits to see the angel. I thought that that was extremely cruel and uncalled for. Another surprise was the ending. The angle was able to recover and fly away like nothing even happened.
